Scotch Whisky Auctions

The Scotch Whisky Auctions app was our first ever app development when it launched back in 2013. The aim was to make it easier for bidders to track the auction online and since then we’d made some tweaks to the look of the app as well as adding in new features like “push” notifications that tell you when you’ve been outbid.
In tandem with the redevelopment of the SWA site to give it a fresh new look and new features in 2016, we redeveloped the app from the ground up. We aimed to make it more user-friendly as a whole, particularly for users on tablets, where it now makes the best use of the screen space available.
The app makes it easy to track items you’re bidding on, and whether you’re still the winning bidder or not. It still allows users to receive outbid notifications directly. We added in the ability for sellers to track the prices of lots they’re selling as well, and also built in support for “filters” to make it easier for users to find the exact bottles they’re interested in.
The app is built to support both iOS and Android devices, covering the vast majority of the mobile market.
How it works
The app is built to integrate with the Scotch Whisky Auctions website, meaning that there’s no extra work required for the team there to get bottles into the app. It’s coded using Apache Cordova, which means it’s easy for us to produce something that works across platforms, and should be relatively straightforward for us to update going forward as needed.
