We first worked with Scottish Veterans Residences many years ago when we were commissioned to research, write and design a book to mark their centenary year – SVR was Scotland's first ex-service charity when it was founded in 1910.

We have since worked with them on various appeals so we were delighted to be approached to redesign their website. Having visited the residences and getting to know so much about the organisation it was great to be able to help other people find out more about SVR.

The website had become very tired and difficult to update so we set about redesigning it to make it much cleaner and brighter as well as making sure all the important information was easy to find.

SVR have commissioned powerful videos where residents tell their stories and we wanted to make sure these had prominence on the front page of the website.

While SVR has a rich history it is also a very forward thinking charity and we wanted the website to reflect this.

What we did

As well as providing information about the range of services offered around supported housing for former members of the UK Armed Forces, a key part of the site was the ability to feature data required under Freedom of Information rules.

We built a custom module to handle this on top of our CMS, meaning that this information can be kept up-to-date in a much more straightforward fashion than previously.

Separately, we built the site to incorporate lots of striking imagery and made good use of video content wherever this was available.

The site is powered by our in-house content management system, fuzzylime (cms+), which makes it really easy for the team involved to manage.

It's also built to be able to be extended in a really straightforward manner, making tasks such as adding in the FOI system much easier than they might otherwise be.
