Website design & coding
We were delighted to win a tender to design and develop the website for EmilyTest, a charity tackling gender-based violence in education after Emily, a law student, took her own life after a campaign of abuse at the hands of her student boyfriend.
Working with the Scottish Government, EmilyTest developed a charter to allow universities and colleges to take the “Emily Test”, which involves meeting minimum standards where Emily’s life could have been saved.
The charter is made up of five principles with more than 40 minimum standards which institutions must meet in order to pass the Emily Test and receive charter accreditation – something that, as the toolkit was being used manually, was hindering roll-out to interested institutions.
Visit this siteWhat we did
EmilyTest initially had updated branding developed, tweaking their existing logo, and we built their new site around this look and feel.
The site now makes strong use of images in page headers throughout, along with other elements of interest such as facts and figures that “count up” within the page and boxes for elements such as news items that fade in when the user reaches then within the page.
There are two key functions for the site to fulfil: firstly it has to offer general information about the charity, what it can provide and its background; and secondly it now functions as the main location for institutions to complete the charter process.
Allowing this functionality to be embedded within the site was a large piece of work of its own, involving taking a manual toolkit and turning it into something that could be completed online. To facilitate this we built a custom module for our CMS, allowing the EmilyTest team to add new organisations, and tweak the sections/questions that need to be completed. Once an institution is ready the team and external assessors can meet together while using the site to examine an application.
They said …
David and Jill take what can be a technically challenging process and make it feel simple and easy to understand. They break down complex concepts into clear, layperson-friendly terms, ensuring you understand each step of the process.
They took our vision and turned it into reality, providing patience and support every step of the way. Our website includes both a members’ login area and a separate panelists’ login, each serving distinct functions. We outlined our relatively complex needs, and they delivered a user-friendly, highly functional platform that supports the universities and colleges we work with across the UK.
Working with them continues to be a pleasure, and we couldn’t be happier with the final result. We’d highly recommend them to any organisation looking for expert, approachable website development.
