The Compassionate Friends
Website coding, e-commerce & design

We’ve worked with The Compassionate Friends, a charity that supports people who have suffered the death of a child/children, since 2016, when we won a tender to redevelop their old site into one that better reflected the organisation.

In 2021, we worked with them again on refreshing the site to give it a more modern and clean look and make it easier for users to find key information.

There’s a lot to read in the site and (especially given who it’s aimed at) it was crucial to ensure the journey to the right page was as straightforward as possible.

The site also incorporates an e-commerce element, allowing users to buy from a small shop to support the charity, as well as taking donations through JustGiving. It has integrated forms for collecting information from users who wish to join or renew membership or complete a task such as requesting paper copies of leaflets.

What we did

The initial site we built for TCF took a clean-slate approach, with all of the content revisited and written from scratch. For the current site, we tweaked its layout and the site’s structure.

We built a custom module to allow volunteers only to access specific pages, integrating that with the login system for the shop so users didn’t have to deal with different accounts for different parts of the site. We also built in Google Maps integration, allowing visitors or volunteers to find details of support groups in their area.

The new site also features an “in memory” section, allowing visitors to set up a page as a memorial to their child/children, and invite donations to TCF in memory of them. This integrates with TCF’s JustGiving account and allows donors to leave a message on a specific page on the site.

TCF’s site is powered by our in-house CMS, and we provided training to the small team who manage the site, allowing them to keep it updated and manage orders, new submissions of in-memory pages and so on as easily as possible.

They said …

Working with fuzzylime is a delight. David and his team have always taken time to understand our charity and the sensitive nature of our services for bereaved families. They offer a highly responsive website development service, always working hard to incorporate the features we request or suggest alternatives where appropriate.

In recent months we have collaborated with fuzzylime to update and refresh our site and were delighted by the outstanding results. We now have a fresh looking and easy to navigate site which meets the needs of the bereaved parents and families we support, as well as our volunteers and supporters.
