App design and coding |
We were approached by Scott Bell with a request to help him build an app to integrate with some very modern furniture.
The units he sells can raise or lower when they receive a specific signal, and Scott wanted an app that could talk to them through Bluetooth. It needed to be very, very straightforward from a user’s point of view – just two buttons, one to raise the unit and one to lower it.
The company who provided the Bluetooth unit also provided a sample app, but it wasn’t very user-friendly and included a number of features that weren’t needed. We took that app apart and used its source to build a new one that cut the features down to the ones that were actually required.
The app automatically looks for, and connects to, the Bluetooth module when it's launched – no further user action is needed to pair or anything similar.
We also developed the app to work on both Android and iOS, and produced it with two different colour schemes and logos, to cover specific brands under which the furniture is being produced.
